Brewers Martin Maldonado a Part of Police Dogs Fundraiser

The event, held at the Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals, will raise money for bullet- and stab-proof vests for Wisconsin police dogs.

Milwaukee Brewers catch Martin Maldonado will be among the special guests at the Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals Vest-a-K9 Fest, back after raising more than $30,000 during its debut last summer.

The event, to help raise awareness of the need for Wisconsin’s K9 police dogs to be outfitted with bullet resistant and stab-proof protection vests, is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20.

The event will be held at MECA, 3670 S. 108th St.

Proceeds go to MECA’s non-profit organization: MECA Wisconsin Police Canine Vest Foundation, Inc.

“Every day, a police officer's life is spared because of their K-9 partner enabling them to work in much safer and efficient conditions,” said Dr. Marla Lichtenberger, founder of the organization. “These dogs are the first to be stabbed, shot and struck in the line of duty. They have no guns.”

Families are encouraged to attend, and meet and greet K-9 officers, watch police demonstrations and have fun while learning about these everyday heroes.

Maldonado and other professional athletes will be on hand, according to a press release, and there will be live entertainment from eight-time WAMI award winner Ronnie Nyles.
