Glenwood School Collects 711 Pairs of Socks for the Homeless

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service, Glenwood students participated in a "sock drive" to collect socks to be donated to the homeless.

We are very proud to announce that the community collected 711 pairs of socks for Mr. Bob's Under the Bridge to distribute to the homeless! We would like to thank all the generous families and community members who took the time and money to donate to the homeless community.

Glenwood School's Home and School Association sponsored a "sock drive for the homeless" in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?" The Glenwood community answered that question by helping the homeless keep their feet warm and dry this winter.

We are donating the socks to Mr. Bob's Under the Bridge. Under the Bridge was started by Bob and Sue Burmeister in fall of 2009. They accept donations of clothes, hygiene items, food, and financial assistance. Every week Bob, Sue, and other volunteers sort all items that come in. Once the items are sorted they put together care packs. A care pack might consist of a warm coat, hat, gloves, scarves, socks, hygiene items, books, and a snack of some sort. Care packs are labeled according to size and then distributed to the homeless. Many people benefit from them. Mr. Bob has a route that he follows in the city of Milwaukee every Sunday starting at Cathedral Square Park and then on to other spots in the heart of the homeless community. His real passion is hunting for the true homeless under the viaducts, in empty warehouses, and people just on streets.
