After Mother Loses Son to Drugs, Her Foundation Helps Addicts Get Treatment

Patch readers told us who the "Everyday Inspirations" in their communities are, and we're sharing their stories and the work they've done locally.

Everyday Inspirations is a series that features people in Patch communities who inspire others through their work, or people who have faced extraordinary situations and grown from them. They have been featured by other people in the community that have been inspired by the nominees.

Name: Patti Lomas
Town: Greenfield, WI
Nominated by: Susie Smith

Why is this person an "Everyday Inspiration?"
Patti Lomas is a strong woman who has been through a lot and still keeps smiling and helping others every day. She is one my dearest and closest friends. She's the mom I've always wished I had, she's just plain awesome!

Has the nominee's life been changed in an extraordinary way?

Two years ago in March she lost her son to a drug overdose. Patti and her family started the CJ Lomas Recovery Foundation a nonprofit to raise money to help addicts get treatment, and also started a support group for parents.

How does this person work to make others' lives better?

Through the foundation she has already been able to help six addicts on their road to recovery and hopes to help at least 10 more this year. The support group is still going strong every other week as well. On top of that, just having her in my life makes mine better!
