3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Planned to Combat Malaria

JCI Greenfield is hosting a 3-on-3 adult basketball tournament to support the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets Campaign to end malaria.  The tournament will be held Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Vincent High School, 7501 W. Granville Rd., Milwaukee, beginning at 9:15 am.  Teams may register online at www.greenfieldjaycees.org, via paypal to info@greenfieldjaycees.org, or via mail by sending the team name and members to JCI Greenfield, PO Box 20653, Greenfield, WI 53220.  Team registration is $30 via mail and $32 online.

There are 10 new malaria cases every second and every 60 seconds a child in Africa dies from a malaria infection.  Malaria is both preventable and treatable with proper resources.  Nothing But Nets seeks to prevent new malaria infections by providing insecticide treated mosquito netting to families who are otherwise unable to obtain nets due to their cost.  $10 provides a net to protect a family of four and their community for three years.  Each tournament team will be providing three nets to protect families.

JCI Greenfield is a non-profit organization of young people committed to creating positive change in our community.  All proceeds are returned to the Greenfield community through donations and hosted events such as Easter Egg Scramble, the July 4th Celebration, and youth sports competitions.  Monthly membership meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month at 7 pm in the party room at Club Paragon, 3578 S 108th St.  Interested individuals are always welcome.
