All About Books: The Year in Review

Looking back on what I read and loved in 2012.

95 books (and counting)

35,480 pages (and counting)

That's what I read in 2012. In January, I set a goal of reading 80 books for the year and I'm thrilled that I surpassed that goal. And I'll probably add a few more to that 95-book total before the clock strikes midnight on January 1, 2013.

Because I'm bookishly geeky and all, I'm having a blast playing around with the stats page on my Goodreads account. For instance, I can tell you that the longest book I read was Diana Gabladon's "Voyager," at 1,059 pages. Goodreads also breaks down my books from the year by how many stars I gave each one. So, without further ado, my five-star books, the best I read in 2012 (listed in the order in which I read (or, in some cases, re-read) them:

  • Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins
  • Send by David Shipley
  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
  • A Million Suns by Beth Revis
  • Divergent by Veronica Roth
  • Spell Bound by Rachel Hawkins
  • The Night Cirucs by Erin Morgenstern
  • A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
  • Insurgent by Veronica Roth
  • Sweet Land of Liberty by Callista Gingrich
  • Green Heart by Alice Hoffman
  • Overseas by Beatriz Williams
  • Heaven is Here by Stephanie Nielson
  • Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood
  • Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
  • Jeneration X by Jen Lancaster
  • Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
  • Forever by Maggie Stiefvater
  • The Boy who Was Raised as a Dog by Bruce Perry
  • Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
  • Enna Burning by Shannon Hale
  • How to Watch the Olympics by David Goldblatt
  • Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
  • The Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels by Ree Drummond
  • A Different Kind of Normal by Cathy Lamb

So, which books got the proverbial (or literal) five stars from you this year?

Steve, go down to the "village square" burn a blue fist. Or, maybe in front of WAL-MART.

As a producer I have better things to do. Drum circles are the blue fisters circle jerk.
