Monday Musings: A Little Bit About a Lot of Stuff

Some Monday musings about the weekend, upcoming events, books and music.

Where do weekends go? I feel like there's a fast-forward button that gets pushed every Friday around 5 p.m. and held down until about 10 p.m. on Sunday evenings. So I find myself at the beginning of another busy week and my head is full of all sorts of things. Let's dish a little bit about a lot of things, shall we?

First up: music. I have rather eclectic tastes. If you look in my car right now, there are CDs by Katherine Jenkins, Martina McBride, Kelly Clarkson, Florence + the Machine and a few other various mixes -- mainly book playlists. I'm really enjoying "Ceremonials" by Florence + the Machine and I've been rather obsessed with book playlists of late, as well. I just found out that each of the three books in the "Fifty Shades" trilogy has its own playlist. And I'm hoping there will be a playlist for "Insurgent," which comes out tomorrow, hurray! Like books, music is a topic that has no easy answers. In fact, one of my least favorite questions is "what's your favorite song?" It changes from day to day! And it depends on the genre, my mood, what I've been listening to and reading . . . there are so many factors!

What have you been listening to lately?

Next: the weekend. I was happy to have a chance to stop by at the Greenfield Public Library's book sale on Saturday morning. I found a few things to add to my shelves, but the real winner was my mom. Honestly, I turned my back for two minutes to look at one table and, when I turned around, the woman had a stack of books as tall as she is in her hands! But, as my motto is "you can never have too many books," it seemed like a win all the way around.

On Sunday, my mom and I went to the Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend Banquet in Brookfield. It's an annual event put on by Hales Corners Lutheran Church and it's always lovely. We got dressed up and had our picture taken and were treated to an all-American lunch and entertainment from Former First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln! Lots of fun.

I finished "Fifty Shades Darker" on Friday evening, so I picked up a new book, "Julia's Child" to read over the weekend. It was very cute and funny - and had recipies, as well! What's not to like there? Next up on the list are "Fifty Shades Freed" and "Death Comes to Pemberly." I'm anxiously awaiting my delivery of "Insurgent" and I need to read "World War Z" for this month's book club, as well. Always so many books and so little time!

Finally, the week ahead. It's a busy and bustling week for me at work. Tomorrow kicks off National Foster Care Awareness Month and ARW is hosting some fun events to get the ball rolling. Join in if you're able; the more the merrier!
