My Over-Crowded Bookshelf

How I went from nothing to read to buried by books.

About a week ago, something very strange happened to me. Not something unprecedented, just something strange.

I couldn't find anything to read.

I had finished Drums of Autumn and realized that I needed a break from the Outlander series. I had finished Neverwhere and A Bed of Spices and I was awaiting the arrival of a few books that I had requested from the library. And so I turned to my bookshelf. There were (and are) several books there waiting to be read and I selected one at random. I began reading. I kept putting the book down to watch whatever was on TV. I glanced again at the pages, sighed and started reading again. And I realized I had absolutely no interest in whatever the book was about. And so I set it on the to-be-taken-to-Half-Price-Books pile and pulled another off my shelf. Same thing. Lather, rinse, repeat. I went through three books that way and began to realize that there's a reason why the books still waiting to be read on my shelf are there. Apparently, I'm not really all that interested in reading them!

I obsessively checked my account on the library's website, willing the status to turn from IN TRANSIT to READY FOR PICK UP. Sadly, my persistence didn't make anything arrive any quicker. So I picked up a "do over" book (you know, a choose your own adventure style thing) and dove in. In Million Little Mistakes, you, the reader, have just won a fortune in the lottery - congratulations! And now you have some decisions to make: do you leave your job or keep working? Stick with your long-time lover or leave him for someone new? After going through the scenarios a few times (once winding up on a questionable island and another time being assassinated by Kim Jong-il) I set that one aside to revisit again another time.

I once again checked my account page at the library, sighed, and pulled another book at random off my shelf. This one was a keeper. The first in the Book Town mystery series, Murder is Binding, caught my attention and has kept it. I'm about a third of the way through, but I'm also juggling those books that finally arrived for me at the library. As well as a few advanced reader for review copies, as well. In just a few days, I've gone from not having anything to read to not having enough time to read anything! Oh the life of a bookaholic blogger.

Here's what I'm working on:

What are you all reading? And what else should I be reading?
