AUSTIN, Texas -- Alverno College pounded out 29 hits and 27 runs in a doubleheader sweep of host Huston-Tillotson University on Sunday afternoon at the Krieg Softball Complex. The Inferno won 14-0 and 13-5, as both games went just five innings due to the eight-run rule.

Alverno finished the six-game visit to the Lone Star State with a 5-1 record, its best start in school history.

In the opener, Alverno scored in four of the five innings -- which included a seven-run second -- to cruise to the shutout victory over the Rams (0-6).

Erin Dulek and Jamie Villalobos combined for the three-hit shutout in the circle. Villalobos (3-1) relieved Dulek (2-0) in the second and picked up the win with four strikeouts in four innings pitched. Dulek suffered a base-running injury in the top of the second.

The Inferno bats didn't let up in game two, as the visitors pounded out 16 hits and scored in every inning of the nightcap.

Wilmore and freshman outfielder Sam Kasprzak each went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the hitting. Kasprzak's first career-hit was a memorable one, an inside-the-park home run to right field in the top of the third for two of her four RBIs.

Four additional Inferno players recorded at least a pair of hits, including Ortner, who connected for a triple for the second-straight game. Lauren Colette scored a game-high three runs.

Villalobos recorded the complete-game victory and allowed just four hits and three earned runs in five full innings pitched.

After today's series, Wilmore moved into a tie with Villalobos for the top spot in the Alverno record book for all-time hits. The seniors are now tied at 139 hits apiece.

Alverno will take a long break before its next action, a doubleheader at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana on Friday, March 22.
