Free Throws Key Inferno's Victory Over Eagles

Jamie Hoernke recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 20 points and a team-high 10 rebounds as Alverno won its sixth-straight game.

MILWAUKEE -- Jamie Hoernke recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 20 points and a team-high 10 rebounds as Alverno College won its sixth-straight game, 63-57, over visiting Edgewood College Tuesday night in Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno trailed by nine points, 13-4, early in the game, but battled back for a 26-24 halftime lead on a pair of Ashley Berry free throws in the period's final minute.

The Eagles retook the lead, 35-34, on a 3-pointer with 12 minutes left, but it would be the visitors final time in front. A pair of Anna Boteva free throws on the next possession gave the Inferno a lead it wouldn't relinquish.

Kristen Speerschneider drove to the hoop and laid it in for the Inferno's largest lead of the contest, 58-45, with 3:19 to play, and the host team hung on for the six-point victory and season sweep of the Eagles.

"We took 20 more free throws than they took," Alverno head coach Brad Duckworth said. "We made 10 more than they took -- that was the difference in the game."
