Inferno Drops 2 At Halloween Invite

Alverno College lost a pair of matches at the opening day of the Halloween Invite hosted by Washington University in St. Louis on Friday.

ST. LOUIS -- Alverno College lost a pair of matches at the opening day of the Halloween Invite hosted by Washington University in St. Louis on Friday.

The Inferno (3-24) lost the first match, 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-17), to the host Bears -- ranked No. 1 in the nation -- and then fell in the second match, 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-14), to St. Ambrose University.

Versus the top-ranked Bears (25-2), the Inferno managed only 17 kills on 83 attempts, while the Bears connected for 32 kills on 81 attempts and added 12 service aces.

Emma Ortner let the Inferno attack with a match-high nine kills, Reagan Owen had a match-high 14 assists, and Ortner and Cali Trepp tied for a match-high eight digs.

Against the Queen Bees (17-10) the Inferno had 18 kills on 85 attacks, compared to the Bees 35 kills on 75 attacks and 13 service aces.

Ortner and Trepp led the Inferno offense with six kills apiece, while Owen added 15 assists, and Ortner led the defense with 10 digs.

Alverno plays in its final match of the Halloween Invite, and the season, tomorrow against No. 24 Juniata College at 11 a.m.
