Villalobos Becomes Alverno's All-Time Hits Leader

Entering today's doubleheader at the Dallas, Jamie Villalobos needed just two hits to become Alverno's all-time hits leader and came through with a four hits as the Inferno swept the Crusaders.

IRVING, Texas -- Entering today's doubleheader at the University of Dallas, Jamie Villalobos needed just two hits to become Alverno College's all-time hits leader, and the senior leadoff hitter came through with a pair of hits in each game as the Inferno swept the Crusaders, 8-0 and 6-1.

Villalobos laced a two-RBI single in the second inning to tie Alverno Hall of Famer Lindsey Terzis (2002-05) at 132 career hits, which gave the Inferno a 2-0 lead.

After she flied out to left-center field in her following at bat, she recorded career-hit number 133 in the top of the fifth with a RBI-single up the middle for the 8-0 lead.

"It was great to see Jamie break the record today," Alverno head coach Kristin Ortman said. "She has really started the season extremely strong at the plate. Jamie has been a tremendous hitter throughout her career."

Stef Wilmore, who entered today's series just a hit behind her four-year teammate on the all-time list, also surpassed Terzis with four hits on the day, including a single and double in game one.

Ashleigh Sagat and hurler Erin Dulek also recorded a pair of hits each in the opener as the Inferno (3-1) totaled 10 hits in the victory.

Dulek (2-0) tossed 11 strikeouts and recorded her second complete-game victory of the season, as she faced 18 batters and allowed three hits in five innings pitched, as the game ended after five due to the eight-run rule.

In game two, the Inferno scored in each of the first three innings for a 5-0 lead, and tacked on another in the sixth off nine hits and seven Dallas (0-2) errors.

Villalobos, Wilmore, Megan Rossi and Erika Wotnoske had two hits apiece for the Inferno, which included doubles by Wilmore and Rossi.

The left-handed Villalobos (1-1) didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, and allowed just one run -- a two-out double in the seventh -- in the complete-game win. She fanned six batters and allowed just six hits in the win.

Through four games this season, Villalobos is now at 135 career hits and Wilmore is at 134.

Alverno completes the three-series Texas trip on Sunday at Huston-Tillotson University at 1 p.m.
