Warriors Hand Inferno Third-Straight Loss

After going 18 games without back-to-back losses, Alverno College dropped its third-straight contest to Wisconsin Lutheran College, 62-41, this evening in Reiman Gymnasium.

MILWAUKEE -- After going 18 games without back-to-back losses, Alverno College dropped its third-straight contest to Wisconsin Lutheran College, 62-41, this evening in Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (12-9, 9-5 Northern Athletics Conference) shot under 40 percent from the field for the third-consecutive game with a 32-percent effort on the night, while the visiting Warriors (19-2, 14-0) used a 60-percent second-half performance for a 52-percent overall night.

The Warriors, who clinched the NAC South Division title outright prior to tonight's tipoff, opened the game with an 8-0 run before the Inferno fought back to cut the deficit to 13-10 on a Kayla Kennedy layup.

The visitors did not allow the Inferno to get any closer and extended the spread to 29-15 at halftime, before breaking the game open in the second half.

Alverno forced Wisconsin Lutheran into 20 turnovers, but were outrebounded 30-21 and allowed the Warriors to make nine of its 20 3-point attempts in a season-best 45-percent effort from the arc.

Devon Gorman hit all of her free throws (8-for-8) for a team-high 12 points, but was just 2-for-11 from the field, and Ashley Berry and Kristen Speerschneider chipped in eight points apiece for the Inferno.

Wisconsin Lutheran's Kristen Schulz was 7-for-9 from the field to lead all scorers with 16 points, and had a game-high seven rebounds.

Alverno needs a pair of wins in its final four games to clinch a NAC tournament spot and will host Milwaukee School of Engineering on Tuesday in the Inferno's final regular-season finale. Tuesday's game will begin at 7 p.m.
