Inferno Tennis Served Up Pair Of Season-Opening Losses

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Inferno of Alverno College lost a pair of season-opening duals to the University of Dubuque and host Carroll University today at the Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Center in Waukesha.

The Spartans (1-1) downed the Inferno, 8-1, in the morning's contest, before the host Pioneers (3-1) swept the Inferno, 9-0, in the afternoon.

Alverno's top doubles team of Jordanna Farkas and Laeren Yates scored the lone team point of the day with a victory over Dubuque's Chelsea Borden and Ashley Schuleuter. The rookie duo needed a 10-8 tiebreaker to secure the 9-8 Inferno win.

The second doubles team -- Damanique Drake and Libby Kent -- battled in both of their matches, but fell to both the Spartans and Pioneers by identical 8-4 scores.

For its next action, Alverno opens up Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play versus Concordia University Wisconsin on Wednesday. The 4 p.m. dual will be played at North Shore Country Club in Mequon.
