New Teachers Strive to Improve the Education of Whitnall Students

As new teachers have recently been hired in the Whitnall school district, they bring new perspectives and new approaches of learning to the classroom.

During this 2012-2013 school year, new teachers have been hired at Whitnall High School to better the education and environment of the students. As they approach their new career, these teachers have the potential to shape and improve the futures of Whitnall students.

Mr. Sweger, who began teaching English 10, Creative Writing, and British Literature at Whitnall in January, said, “I have high expectations and I’m constantly raising the bar of what I think education should be. It’s not the most traditional style, but students respond to it because it’s not something they see in every class.”

Sweger is not the only one taking a new approach to educate Whitnall students.   Senior Stephanie Parfitt said the teaching style of Mr. Hayden, who recently began directing the Whitnall orchestra, “is different compared to the last teacher. We do more actual work compared to playing all the time in orchestra. He’s trying to make it more of a learning experience."

Mr. Ford, a recent graduate of UW-Whitewater and new business teacher at Whitnall said, “I can benefit the students by looking toward their future and their future goals and also by trying to accomplish as much as possible while in high school to prepare for their futures. “

The new members of the Whitnall staff strive to break down the barrier between students and teachers.

“I feel having just graduated High School 5 1/2 years ago and college 2 months ago that I can relate to the modern student," Sweger said. "I like to reevaluate how things have been done in the past and what works best for the students rather than what works best for me.”

As these teachers begin their professional careers, Whitnall students hope they can help to prepare them for a promising future.
