Plants Like Water Low and Slow

Better ideas for watering topsy-turvy's and other container plants.

You planted your plant in a topsy-turvy. You added moisture retaining potting mix or potting soil with nutrients for container plants. Every time you water. You don't know how much to water it and the water seems to run threw it every time, flushing out the additives that were placed into the soil to fertilize it. So, every time you water in this way; you are losing the fertilizer from the pottingmix that you paid good money for.

Better Idea: Instead of watering it with the hose or a sprinkling can. TRY ICE CUBES instead. Plants love ICE CUBES, they release the water held in them slowly, exactly like plants like to be watered. A topsy-turvy planter can handle around 8-12 ice cubes, every couple of days.

This method of watering also can work for other plants you have in containers. Just remember not to put the ice cubes directly against the stem of the plant, this may cause ice damage to the plant.

How to figure out how many ice cubes to place in your container?? Measure the top of the pot, I recommend one ice cube per inch of the top measurement. In extreme drought or heat, I would double that amount every couple of days.

Steve, go down to the "village square" burn a blue fist. Or, maybe in front of WAL-MART.
