You may have a cherished clear vase but you never use it, because it has supposedly unremoveable white rings inside. These white rings are mineral deposits from hard water.
They form when the water that was in the vase evaporates, or is absorbed by the flowers and the water was not replenished. This causes the rings to form. At first, they are not noticeable, but over time, they can seem to be etched into the glass.
- Over a sink, add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the vase, (less if the vase is small). Then add water to cover the rings. Next, add in 1/4 cup of baking soda, (less if the vase is small). This will cause the mixture to effervescence up and over the vase. After it has stopped, allow the mixture to sit for 15-20 minutes. Then using a bottle brush, swirl the mixture a second time making sure to use the brush to assist in removing the rings and then, rinse out the vase.
- If after drying and checking to see the rings still remain, you can try the mixture again, but this time add in 3 Tablespoons of uncooked rice to assist in agitating the mixture, before adding in the baking soda.
- Repeat as listed above.
This should remove the rings from your cherished vase, hence, making it usable again.
