This evening is a wonderful time to fill your house with the scents of the fall season.
Making a simmering pot:
Take a small saucepan and fill with 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water.
To the water add:
7 whole cloves
1/2 stick of cinnamon
7 whole allspice
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg or ground mace
3 cardamon pods
(you can adjust the spice higher or lower to your liking, after it comes to a boil)
Bring the water to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Check occasionally to see if more water is needed, you must always have water in the simmering pot to prevent burning the spices.
This mixture will last thru repeated reheating to freshen your home. When scent level has been reached. Just turn off the heat and let it cool on the stove.
Other spices can be added to change up the simmering pots.
Lavender buds, orange peels, fresh or dried sage, thyme, bay leaves or even dill seeds.
Experiment to find your favorite blend, or google simmering pots for more ideas.
