Great Trip Sets Brewers Up for Big Homestand
The Brewers four-game sweep of the Dodgers has them primed to make up some ground in the NL Central race during a nine-game homestand beginning tonight.
The Brewers are back in town tonight to face the Pittsburgh Pirates to begin a 9 game home stand that should go a long way in telling whether the amazing 5–2 west coast swing was a sign of things to come or a case of catching a team at the right time in the LA Dodgers.
The Pirates, like 2011 are hanging around .500 and sit ahead of the Brewers in the NL Central standings with a 25-25 record. However, the Brewers and their fans should find Pittsburgh’s 4–38 record at Miller Park since 2007 to their liking. The superb run of quality starts has the bullpen fresh and ready to pick up wherever Randy Wolf leaves off tonight. He has only gotten beyond 6 innings once this season and hasn’t won a game since April 30 so that is aligned nicely.
After the weekend with the Pirates the Brewers will enjoy an off day on Monday before a midweek visit from the Chicago Cubs with Yovanni Gallardo and Zach Greinke pitching the first two games. The Brewers then host the San Diego Padres for three.

A nice little 7 and 2 run through these 9 games and the team would suddenly find themselves back at .500 and ready to head off to visit two more horrible teams in Kansas City and Minnesota. Cincinnati and St. Louis have not run and hide and the Cardinals in particular are facing a rash of injuries similar to the Brewers.
St. Louis will travel to New York (28-23) for a four game set with the Mets this weekend and spend the next weekend toiling with Cleveland (27-23). They will also see the Chicago White Sox (29-22). With their injuries and that competition it isn’t out of the question that the Brewers could catch St. Lois around the time they are departing Minnesota.

The Reds will face the Indians twice as well as the Detroit Tigers and the Mets while the Brewers are hopefully feasting on turkeys. Who knows, the Crew could find themselves in really good position come Father’s Day.
This potential run would be very reminiscent of 2011 when the Brewers made up a ton of ground between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Not much else has been the same in Milwaukee this year but the team is poised to take advantage of this time on the heels of one of their best west coast trips ever.
