FMOW Gymnasts Aim for Another State Title

There may be a possible three-peat win for the FMOW gymnastics team in the near future.

The Franklin, Muskego, Oak Creek, and Whitnall conjoined gymnastics team, or FMOW, will be competing at sectionals on Feb. 21, to guarantee a spot at the upcoming state event March 1-2 in Wisconsin Rapids.

Gymnastics is a team sport but scored individually by events. Meets are split into four main events: vault, floor, uneven bars and floor. Each team has five participants in each event. After each event, only the top four scores are kept. At the end of all the events the scores are totaled for a team score to determine the winner of the meet.

Whitnall senior Lauren Zurowski said, "The season is going very well and I’m really happy with it.”

When asked if she sees potential for another state title she said, “Yes, we have the potential but we have to continue working for it, try our best, and see what happens.”

The FMOW team qualified for the state meet in 2010, 2011, and 2012. They brought home first place in both 2011 and 2012 and hope to continue this winning streak with a three-peat this season.
