Greenfield Patch's Newest Bloggers: a Couple on the Verge of Parenthood

Meet your bloggers, Mark and Erin Van Handel. They discuss qualities of good parents, kid stuff around Milwaukee, and designer baby products.

Hello! We are in week 38 of our first pregnancy. In this blog, we plan to share our rookie-season parenting adventures. We think it would be neighborly to introduce ourselves. To facilitate this, here's a quick Van Handel one-on-one interview.

What's your day job?

Mark: I am an industrial designer at a major Racine-based corporation. I have been there for just more than a year.

Erin: I am an MBA student at UW-Whitewater. I also am an ex-journalist who put in 10 years at newspapers before deciding to go back to school about a year ago. I also blog about my crafty adventures at siemacht.blogspot.com.

What's your dream job?

Mark: Alien detective.

Erin: Travel writer a la Rick Steves.

How has the pregnancy been going?

Mark: Fine.

Erin: Very good. My doctor is happy so I am happy. I am, though, pretty much over being pregnant.

Why will your partner be a good parent?

Mark: Because Erin is level-headed and intelligent. She can see the big picture, and for some reason, I think that will be very helpful.

Erin: Mark will be a good parent because he has a great sense of humor and he doesn't sweat the small stuff. He is more patient than I am.

What are you looking forward to doing with the baby in the Milwaukee area?

Mark: State Fair snack tour.

Erin: Milwaukee County Zoo, although that probably will not happen until next summer.

What do you think of the attached video?

Mark: Why are Europeans always making baby products so sexy?

Erin: I was waiting for Austin Powers to show up, but it was a legitimate advertisement.
