Combating 'Senioritis' at Whitnall

Seniors everywhere are sick with senioritis.

Flu season is upon us, but many Whitnall High School seniors have a different ailment: “Senioritis.”

Senioritis is an illness that makes a senior no longer care about school. This illness has only one known cure: graduating high school.

Seniors everywhere suffer Senioritis, no matter what school, what state, if you are a senior you have a chance of getting it.

“First of all what is senioritis?," Nick Cimler said. "If it is what it’s said to be this year I have only become more lazy and procrastinate more often.”

Luckily there are survivors. Whitnall teacher Taylor Townsend suffered and defeated the horrible senioritis.

“Honestly, my parents were pretty strict and thanks to that my grades didn’t suffer," she said. "A lot of last-minute assignments and procrastinating.”

Senioritis is a serious sickness. Thankfully there are steps being done to help out the seniors. One thing that really helps is Thanksgiving and Christmas break. Any time away from school will calm the sickness down.

When dealing with a student who is afflicted senioritis, you might find that this person is very irritable. When given work to do, they will most likely get off topic or simply put no effort into it and struggle to complete. When a friend gets this virus, all one can do is watch and hope they turn back to normal.

Connor Touhey, a Whitnall student, suffers from senioritis but he handles it well.

“I’m doing my homework and spend an hour a night working and studying," he said. "Also I don’t bring my phone to school anymore to stay focused.”

To get over Senioritis, seniors need to continually remind themselves that the end is near. Grades matter regardless of your age and grade. Also, colleges look at your senior grades so it’s important to keep them up.

Good luck to all infected seniors.
