Whitnall Girl's Volleyball Team Preps for Conference Tourney

The Whitnall girls volleyball team is prepared to host the Woodland Conference Tournament.

This Thursday and Saturday the Whitnall varsity girl’s volleyball team will compete in the Woodland Conference Tournament hosted at Whitnall High School.

The team has had a long, grueling season with many injuries, but the work has been worth it. Their efforts have earned them a 7-2 record in conference, rendering them 20-7 overall. The Falcons are seeded fourth for the conference tournament.

The team is exceeding expectations because they are so young with only two seniors on the team. With these seniors, Whitnall plans to continue to dominate the Woodland.

When freshman volleyball player Ana Haning was asked what is was like being a freshman on varsity, she said, “It was intimidating but you get used to it, it's a lot of pressure.”

So far, volleyball has been a lot of work for the girls, but it has been worth it because they’re winning. Annmarie Coleman, a JV player, was asked what she thought of the team's success.

“They’re doing a great job, lets win conference,” she said.

The school is getting pretty rowdy with the conference tournament around the corner. Maggie Pelkofer, a sophomore on the team who has been playing great this year, said, “If we play to our potential, we should go far in the tournament.”

Whitnall takes athletics seriously, and the girls would love having a conference championship under their belt.  Hopefully, the girls pull through and play great this weekend!
