Whitnall Falcons Soccer Season Recap

The Falcons soccer team prepare for their upcoming playoff game and a overall look of the season

The Whitnall High School girls soccer team will play its Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional playoff game Tuesday at Oconomowoc after a hard-fought regular season.

The game is expected to be close as both teams come into the game with a 7-9 record. The Falcons finished the season 6-6 in the Woodland Conference, earning them the fifth spot out of 12 teams.

Whitnall started off strong with two straight victories, which gave the team confidence that it could make a run at the conference title. But after suffering six losses in their next eight games, the Falcons knew it would be a tough upcoming season in the Woodland. Overall, the .500 conference record was lower than expected but the team had a great time throughout the season and felt it did all they could to give them a shot to win every game.

Kyler Chelminiak, senior defender, said, “We tried our hardest, overcame adversity and had a ball.”

Junior Chris Kelnhofer added, “Some may think we underachieved, but in my opinion we all had fun and it was a successful season overall.”

The Falcons had a solid season despite having five freshman on the team, including two who started. Although the outcome of the regular season may not have been what the Falcons desired, the soccer program is excited for what is to come in upcoming seasons. The coaches and players believe that it is excellent that there were young players contributing to the team, and think that this year was just a small step in the uprising Falcons' future.

“The team is very excited about the young talent and out future is as bright as the sun,” freshman Cade Dombrowski said.

Continue to follow Whitnall as they make their playoff run. The Falcons play tonight and will most likely take on No. 1 seed Kettle Moraine on Thursday if they win.
