Fight Against 'The Green Menace' Begins Now

Armed with saws, shovels and determination, the City of Greenfield is launching an attack on 'The Green Menace,' or Emerald Ash Borer.

Editor's note: The following column has been submitted by City Forester Dennis Fermenich.

Declining trees and the establishment of Emerald Ash Borer in Oak Creek and Franklin have required the City of Greenfield to take the action. Our campus has an abundance of declining ash trees. In the next few weeks, with the help of a Wisconsin DNR urban forestry grant, city DPW crews will be removing all of the ash trees on the City Hall campus.

The good news is that on Arbor Day, May 5, 2012, the citizens of Greenfield will restore healthy trees and shrubs to our City Hall. We are able to accomplish this with the help of a Wisconsin DNR Urban forestry grant, Greenfield DPW, Arbor Day donations, the Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department and volunteers from all walks of our community.
