Alleged Shoplifter Knocks Down Woman with Walker While Fleeing

The man fled after he was confronted at Pick N' Save at 4 p.m. May 14. He allegedly dropped his shoulder and plowed into the woman, who was on her way into the store.

A 37-year-old Milwaukee man allegedly trying to shoplift  vodka, mouth wash and deodorant pushed over a 47-year-old woman with a walker as he fled the grocery store.

The man fled after he was confronted by a loss prevention employee at , 4279 S. 76th St. at 4 p.m. May 14. He allegedly dropped his shoulder and plowed into the woman, who was on her way into the store.

The woman’s neighbor, whom had given the woman a ride to the store, chased the suspect in his car and then on foot. He caught up to the suspect and after the suspect punched him in the ribs, the man punched the suspect in the mouth with a fist.

The man was given a Greenfield police for his attempt to stop the suspect.

A short time later, a Greenfield police officer spotted the suspect near South 68th Street and West Howard Avenue. When the suspect saw the squad car, he allegedly took off running between houses. He was later apprehended.

In an unfortunate instance of coincidence, the suspect and the woman he bowled over outside of Pick N Save were originally placed in adjacent beds at St. Luke’s Hospital, separated only by a curtain before the woman was moved.

Among the items the man was allegedly trying to steal were Absolute Vodka, Q-tips, baby powder, soap, mouth wash, body wash, deodorant and several clothing items from TJ Maxx, where he allegedly shop-lifted before coming to Pick N’ Save.

The man was charged with two counts of misdemeanor retail theft and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
