Armed Robbery Suspect Who Stole Cash Register Apprehended

Suspected allegedly held up two different gas stations with a knife.

The worked quickly to apprehend a suspect in two armed robberies early Tuesday morning.

According to police, Greenfield dispatchers received a hold-up alarm from  on 27th Street and Ramsey Avenue at 2:13 a.m. Officers were on the scene within a minute of the alarm and found the suspect, a male, had fled after threatening the clerk with a knife and obtaining cash.

Just after officers finished their investigation, dispatchers received a 911 call reporting another armed robbery at the BP gas station at Loomis Avenue and Layton Avenue. In that incident, according to police, the clerk fled out of the store when the suspect pulled a knife. The suspect then took the entire cash register and fled.

The clerk was able to provide a description of the fleeing vehicle to the dispatcher. Moments later, officer Jim Pizur found the car on West Grange Avenue at 60th Street. He and other officers stopped the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

The police department recovered the money, cash register and weapon.

The department declined to give any further description of the suspect or the vehicle he was driving because he may be involved in other robberies in other jurisdictions.
