A 35-year-old Milwaukee woman arrested in Greenfield for shoplifting a watch and lotion, a misdemeanor, on Feb. 8, now faces felony charges as well.
Marylou Perez was charged Feb. 11, in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one count of assault by a prisoner – expelling bodily fluids when she spit on the face and in the mouth of an employee at the county’s criminal justice facility.
According to court documents, a nursing supervisor was in the pre-booking area of the jail with Perez at 9:30 p.m. Feb. 8. The supervisor asked Perez to sign a pre-booking form but Perez instead took the pen and stated she was going to kill herself and stab herself in the jugular.
As several Milwaukee Police Department officers wrestled the pen away from Perez, she spit on the nursing supervisor’s face, and saliva ran down the supervisor’s face and into the corner of her mouth.
If convicted, Perez faces a maximum of 3 ½ years of imprisonment and $10,000 in fines.
Her initial court appearance is scheduled for March 12.
Perez was initially arrested by Greenfield police for attempting to take a watch and lotion from Kmart on 27th. She fled the store, resisted store security and provided police with a false name, according to police.
