Cigarette Thief Arrested Again After Heroin Incident

Joseph Erie allegedly nearly overdosed on heroin July 1, a violation of the absolute sobriety condition of his bail.

As a result of a near heroin overdose, a 25-year-old Greenfield man, who twice in the last two months has tried to steal cigarettes from local businesses, is back in custody.

Joseph Erie was arrested for alleged bail jumping July 1, hours after his friend called police stating he believed Erie had overdosed in the bathroom of his house in the 4600 block of South 46th Street.

According to the report, officers responded to Erie’s friend’s house and found Erie unresponsive in the bathroom. paramedics eventually revived Erie.

Once at St. Luke’s Hospital, Erie admitted to police that he bought $20 in heroin and used it, but was not sure why he had the reaction he did because it was “his normal amount.”

Erie, who was charged with , was out on bail. One of the conditions of that bail required Erie to stay absolutely sober.

Erie was also arrested for alleged possession of drug paraphernalia.
