At 1:30 a.m. Jan. 1, a Hales Corners police officer spotted Reyes headed eastbound in the 11900 block of West Grange Avenue doing 49 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour speed zone and pulled him over in the 11100 block. After the officer got out of his squad and asked Reyes for his license, Reyes, sped off at high speed, made an abrupt U-turn, nearly hitting another car. He took off westbound at 60 to 80 miles per hour, the complaint said.

The officer chased Reyes, who then turned left on South Monaco Place. But the officer lost sight of him and stopped the chase. The officer decided to check driveways in the area for Reyes’ car and while doing so, he saw Reyes’ car come eastbound on Grange with its headlights off, turn onto Monaco Place, then pull into a driveway in the 5500 block behind the squad car.

The officer got behind Reyes’ car and placed him under arrest.

Reyes admitted to fleeing, saying he knew he didn’t have a license, the complaint said. He said he had a big glass of wine before driving and he just wanted to go home. He took a Breathalyzer test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.129.

Reyes is currently out of custody while awaiting trial.
