Football Card Fan Flagged for Illegal Use of the Hands

Joseph Andrew Marciniak, who has a history of stealing cards, was charged with retail theft after police say he took numerous packs of football cards from Walmart.

A 34-year-old St. Francis man is facing charges after police say he stole nearly $80 worth of NFL cards from a Greenfield store.

Joseph Andrew Marciniak was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Saturday with one count of retail theft and one count of felony bail jumping. If convicted, he faces nearly seven years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, on Sept. 11, two employees at Walmart told police they spotted Marciniak in the sports cards section of the store, and saw him grab two handfuls of packs of Topps NFL cards, walk out of the store and drive off in a silver car.

The employees got the license plate number of the car, according to the complaint, then went back into the store and found four empty boxes of cards valued at approximately $80.

On Sept. 23, Marciniak, who was accused by police of taking sports cards without earlier this year as well, admitted to the theft to police, according to the complaint, and said he disposed of the cards because none of them were of players he liked.

He will make his initial appearance in court Wednesday. Β Β
