Former Whitnall Business Manager Under Investigation

Former business manager questioned about being involved with the distribution of personal information about former Superintendent Karen Petric.

The former business manager of the is under investigation on allegations he was involved in distributing personal information about former Superintendent Karen Petric.

According to a search warrant filed in Waukesha County Circuit Court, police are investigating an incident where former business manager Matthew G. Corby, 60, may have placed personal information about Petric in a display for pamphlets outside the admissions office of Waukesha County Technical College and left information on a flight from Florida to Milwaukee.

According to the document, in October, a WCTC employee found papers in an area with pamphlets with “take one” written on them. Each of the papers had Petric’s name, address, her husband’s name, date of birth, names of children, date of birth for one of them, her phone number, information about her parents, weight, height, Social Security number and her FICO number.

Corby allegedly had access to all of Petric’s personal information because of his prior position with the district, the document states, and he told police he attends WCTC on Wednesday nights for yoga classes.

Shelly Janke, spokeswoman for WCTC confirmed Corby was a student at the school when the incident occurred.

“When the information was discovered it was reported to the Pewaukee Police Department,” she said. “As far as we know this situation is under investigation.”

Attorney Paul Bucher, who has been retained by Corby, said he has no comment on the investigation given no charges have been filed at this time.

Corby worked as business manager of the district and worked alongside Petric for about six and a half years, but was placed on administrative leave in 2007 or 2008 after he was accused of sexual harassment and performance issues, the document states.

Before leaving the district, the document alleges Corby erased all district financial records, however, current Whitnall Superintendent Lowell Holtz said he checked with staff and said this is not the case.

“Sounds like an urban legend to me,” he said.

Petric had a restraining order taken out against Corby in 2008. She first announced plans to retire due to safety concerns, but later rescinded the request and retired at the end of the 2009-10 school year.

The case remains under investigation by the Pewaukee Police Department.
