Gas Main Break Temporarily Shuts Down Highway 100

The major Greenfield intersection at Layton Avenue and Highway 100, and the surrounding area, was closed around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Road crews doing work on the median on Highway 100 struck a gas line Tuesday morning, causing the temporary closure of the major Greenfield intersection.

According to Greenfield Fire Chief Jon Cohn, the gas line was struck around 10 a.m. He said roads were closed for about 25-30 minutes and that the gas company worked quickly to shut the gas valve.

The fire department, along with the help of the Greenfield Police Department created a perimeter by shutting down roadways at Edgerton Avenue and Cold Spring Road on Highway 100, and at 116th Street and Root River Parkway on Layton Avenue.
