Greenfield Cab Driver Accused of Assaulting 16-Year-Old Girl

A 45-year-old cab driver from Greenfield has been charged with fourth-degree sexual assault, disorderly conduct and false imprisonment after he allegedly kissed a 16-year-old girl and touched her inappropriately in his cab.

Opinder Singh was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Friday, eight days after the alleged offense occurred in his cab May 24 in West Allis.

Singh faces a fine of $10,000, nine months behind bars or both if convicted of sexual assault.

According to the criminal complaint, a 13-year-old girl on her way to school walked past Singh’s yellow cab when he asked her several times if she wanted a ride. She kept on walking as Singh drove his cab along side her, continually asking her if she needed a ride and telling her that he had cigarettes for her. She told authorities the cab continued to follow her for several blocks before stopping.

That same day, a 16-year-old girl walked past Singh’s cab when he asked her if she wanted a ride. She accepted the ride for two blocks, got out and met a friend. About 15 minutes later, as the girl was walking to school, Singh’s cab pulled up again and he offered to give her another ride. She got into the front seat and a few blocks later, Singh pulled over and locked the doors. He grabbed the girls hand, put his hand on the girls thigh, squeezed her breast and kissed her cheek, all without her consent.

He stopped suddenly and drove her to school.

Singh was arrested May 31. He told authorities a girl approached his cab and asked him for a cigarette. He offered the girl a ride to school and admitted to touching her hand and breast, but denied locking the doors. He also admitted to offering the younger girl a ride that same day.
