Greenfield Fire Department 'Delivering Fire Prevention'

The department is teaming up with Toppers Pizza tomorrow and could deliver a free pizza right to your doorstep.

Can’t decide what you want on your pizza? How about a smoke detector and an education on fire safety courtesy of the .

On Thursday, Oct. 20, the department is teaming up with , 7935 W. Layton Ave., and will be “Delivering Fire Prevention,” a program sponsored by Safe Kids Wisconsin.

From 5-8 p.m. Thursday, the fire department will bring Toppers Pizza in fire trucks to customers who call in for delivery. If the home has a working smoke detector, the pizza is free and the fire fighters will hand out fire safety handouts to the homeowner. If the smoke detector is missing or not working, the home will receive a free smoke detector and educational material, according to Assistant Chief Steve Bauer.

Now for all the ladies out there who have fantasized about having a firefighter or two show up at the doorstep with dinner, there is a stipulation to these home visits: You must have a child under 14 years of age living at home to receive the fire truck delivery.

In addition, on Friday, Oct. 21, the fire department will provide fire education to students through fifth grade at as part of a yearlong program that sees the department educate more than 2,000 students.

Friday’s highlights include a “hazard house” presentation to fourth-graders – kind of a large doll house filled with fire and safety hazards kids have to identify and correct – and at noon, first-graders will be treated to Pyra, the department’s Dalmatian, who will perform fire safety tricks with its trainer, firefighter Greg Holz.
