“I think it’s just a huge issue and we wanted to support it,” said Melissa Janson, one of two firefighters to take the lead on this project. “It’s something we can get into, and support a cause at the same time.”

In addition to selling the t-shirts, firefighters will wear the shirts designed by firefighter Greg Holz while on duty through the end of the month.

Janson admits the project is off to a slow start since Breast Cancer Awareness Month is half over as of Saturday, but she said better late than never.

“Our hope is to wear them every day and sell a bunch of them as well,” she said. “We don’t have any (sales goals). We’ll just see how it goes this year and if we sell out, we’ll get more. … Hopefully it gets bigger and bigger each year.”

Those interested in purchasing a shirt must do so with cash or check.
