Greenfield House Fire Causes $10,000 in Damage

The fire was believed to have originated from a small appliance in the basement.

A house fire in the 4400 block of South 31st Street caused approximately $10,000 in damage Wednesday afternoon, according to the .

According to Lieutenant George Weber, the homeowner was watching TV around 4:30 p.m. when the picture went out. A few minutes later, the smoke detector went off. He and his wife got out of the house safely, called the house and called the fire department and reported thick smoke coming from the basement.

The fire is under investigation, but is believed to have originated from a small appliance in the basement, according to Weber, who added most of the damage was caused by smoke.
