At 4:30 a.m. Friday, New Berlin police officers were called to Lowell Place just north of Janesville Road after someone spotted Strickland’s car in a bush on a median in the road. The officer approached the car and Strickland was initially unresponsive. He opened his eyes, still didn’t respond to the officer, and then finally rolled down his window.

Strickland, who smelled of alcohol, told the officer he didn’t have any medical issues, but he was really tired. He told the officer he was on his way to work in Milwaukee after leaving his house in Greenfield.

When the officer told him that didn’t make sense, Strickland didn’t offer an explanation. He told the officer he had Osgood Schlatters, which made it difficult for him to balance and would make field sobriety tests difficult.

He performed and failed several tests, then refused to take a Breathalyzer test indicating to the officer he was over the limit. Strickland was then taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for a blood test.

He was previously convicted of OWI in 2008, 2009 and 2011. He’s currently free on $2,000 bail while awaiting trial.
