On Wednesday, Miranda-Alvarez was travelling northbound on I-94 near West Holt Avenue driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee registered to Cervantes when he was pulled over by a detective with the Narcotics Division of the Milwaukee High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Drug Gang Task Force for speeding and not having valid license plates on the vehicle. He pulled off the expressway on Holt.

Miranda-Alvarez was the only person in the SUV and the officer noticed the strong smell of marijuana coming from inside. He then discovered a cooler in the back cargo area with the lid partially off. Nine packages of marijuana weighing a total of 23 pounds were inside.

Miranda-Alvarez told investigators he left his home in Chicago and stopped in a smaller town nearby where he picked up the drugs and was driving them to Cervantes, whom he knew as “Primo.” He told officers he was getting $2,000 for transporting the drugs and was on the phone with Cervantes at the time he was pulled over so they could arrange a place to exchange the drugs.

Cervantes was found by police officers in the 2700 block of West Becher Street walking towards his car and was immediately arrested. Cervantes told police he was going to meet Miranda-Alvarez at the McDonald’s on South 6th Street and West Oklahoma Avenue to make the exchange.

He then told police in the past 2 ½ years he had about 100 pounds of marijuana shipped to his apartment in the 10100 block of West Cold Spring Road and an apartment near South 43rd Street and Cold Spring where he used to live. Cervantes said he has a $30,000 debt owed to his drug supplier.

Police searched Cervantes current residence and found a bag with 299 grams of marijuana inside and two scales, which had marijuana residue and cocaine residue on them.

Both men are currently being held in Milwaukee County Jail on $10,000 bail.
