Greenfield Man Charged with 5th Offense Drunken-Driving, Police Say

Police say Andrew Malinowski was taking his girlfriend to work at St. Luke's Hospital. He was arrested outside and ordered to submit to a blood draw at the same hospital.

A 50-year-old Greenfield man who told police he was dropping his girlfriend off at work at St. Luke’s Hospital ended up inside to provide a blood sample after officers suspected he was driving drunk.

Andrew Malinowski, who lives in the 9300 block of West Cold Spring Road, was charged with fifth offense drunken driving April 10, in Milwaukee County Circuit Court, two days after an off-duty sheriff deputy watched him drive erratically.

According to the criminal complaint, the sheriff deputy, who was on his way to work at 6:45 a.m. April 8, saw a black Dodge Dakota pickup truck stopped at the light at Forest Home Avenue and 60th Street. The deputy watched the vehicle remain motionless for some time before suddenly accelerating quickly and nearly rear-ending another car.

The deputy then watched as the driver, later identified as Malinowski, drove above the speed limit and strike a median curb before parking in a way that the vehicle stuck out in traffic across from St. Luke’s.

The deputy spoke with the driver, who told him he had drank a fifth of vodka the night before and was dropping off his girlfriend at the hospital, where she was employed.

If convicted of the felony, Malinowski faces between 6 months and six years of imprisonment and between $600 and $10,000 in fines. Those penalties could be enhanced depending on Malinowski’s blood-alcohol concentration.
