A 57-year-old Greenfield man is facing felony drunk driving charges after he allegedly hit a wall while getting on I-43, then blew out a tire and continued to drive.
Mark A. Ollenburg was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Tuesday with one count of sixth offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
At 12:22 p.m. Friday, a man was travelling behind Ollenburg while getting onto I-43 westbound from the South 84th Street onramp when he noticed Ollenburg’s SUV was swerving and hit a wall, but proceeded to keep driving. The man called police about a possible drunk driver, then continued to follow the SUV.
Ollenburg then got off at West Beloit Road where he hit a curb and blew out a tire, but continued to drive. He eventually stopped in the 9500 block of West Morgan Avenue, where he got out to change the tire. The witness also stopped and talked with Ollenburg until police arrived.
Ollenburg smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. He failed field sobriety tests and when officers searched his SUV they found an open bottle of blackberry brandy on the passenger side.
Ollenburg was previously convicted of OWI in 1992, 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2005. He’s currently out of custody while waiting for trial.
