20-year-old man found in bathroom with syringe.

A 20-year-old man died from an apparent heroin overdose after being found unconscious by a family member at a Greenfield apartment.

The man was found deceased by his grandfather in the 5400 block of S. Tuckaway Court on June 29.

The grandfather, who was carrying items out of the apartment because the family was moving, noticed his grandson entered a bathroom at the residence at about 3 p.m., police wrote in their report.

The grandfather told police he heard a "snorting noise coming from the bathroom" and asked his grandson if "everything was ok," but did not hear a response. About 15 minutes later, the grandfather heard a thump, the police report said.

According to the police report, the grandfather found his grandson unresponsive kneeling against the tub about an hour after the grandson entered the bathroom.

The grandfather told police that it was not "uncommon for his grandson to 'camp out' in the bathroom" and that he would "camp out approximately three times a month," police wrote in the report.

Greenfield police found a syringe, numerous cotton balls, a burnt silver spoon and a lighter on the bathroom floor, according to their report. Police who were on the scene investigating the death also found a faded white powdery residue in the inside of a plastic bag.
