Greenfield Says 'Thank You' To Its Police Officers

Chief Brad Wentlandt: "It's important to take time to remember the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities."

With this week being Police Week, a number of community members have offered their heartfelt thanks to the men in blue this week.

The week includes area law enforcement officials honoring those who were disabled or died in the line of duty. More than 19,000 names of fallen law enforcement officers are etched into the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial — and more are added every year.

The Greenfield Police Department in partnership with the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and Shielded Hearts will present a screening of the film Heroes Behind the Badge at 7 p.m. tonight at the Greenfield High School Performing Arts Center.

So why is Police Week important?

"It's important to take time to remember the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities," Greenfield Chief Brad Wentlandt said. "All citizens should pause to reflect on the challenges and dangers faced by our officers on a daily basis. Each and every time they leave home for their tour of duty, they know they may not return."

We put out a call on Facebook to offer the opportunity for the community to show their support for the men in blue.

Here's what you had to say:

Robin Bruhn My husband and I both participated in the Citizen Police Academy. We both loved it! We learned so much about law enforcement and it was obvious that Greenfield PD goes above and beyond the call of duty. Just last week, we saw 2 officers helping our elderly neighbor back to her home after what appeared to be her wandering due to dementia. They worked with her for quite some time in order to get her home safely.
