Greenfield Homicide Suspect Strikes Plea Deal

Regina Rath plead guilty to first-degree reckless homicide for shooting her husband just four days before her trial was set to begin.

A Greenfield woman accused of for sleeping with other women has struck a last-minute plea deal with prosecutors and will avoid trial.

Regina Rath, 46, plead guilty Thursday to one count of first-degree reckless homicide. In exchange, prosecutors have dropped one count of use of a dangerous weapon, which drops five years off a maximum sentence. She could still face up to 60 years in prison with the conviction.

Her trial was slated to begin Monday. She has been taken into custody by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department until she's sentenced.

According to the criminal complaint, in June 2011, a woman was sitting on her porch in the 4400 block of West Morgan Avenue when she heard gunshots, then saw Rath run out of her house saying, “I shot my husband. I didn’t mean to shoot him.”

Rath then told her husband, Vincent, had been having sex with a number of women in the neighborhood and she had left him in the past due to infidelity issues.

The couple also had a history of domestic violence issues and Rath said she reached her breaking point when her husband told her “You’re not (expletive), never will be (expletive). You never will make it in this world. You need to get some help.”

She was packing to leave when at some point she got a gun and shot him when telling him to get away from her.

Rath will be sentenced by Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Richard Sankovitz on Aug. 27.
