Heavy Lifting Required for Lawn Ornament Theft, Police Say

There’s a good chance a Greenfield homeowner thought he was hallucinating when he noticed what was missing from his yard June 17.

According to the Greenfield Police Department incident log, two concrete mushroom lawn ornaments, believed to weigh 100 pounds each, were taken from a yard in the 8800 block of West Whitaker Avenue on or before June 17.

That was not the only landscape-related theft last week.

Two multi-colored hanging baskets were reported stolen from a home in the 3700 block of South 33rd Street at 7:15 p.m. June 17.

A resident in the 4600 block of West Tesch Avenue reported a 7-foot tall hanger and a white pot with petunias were stolen sometime before 1 p.m. June 19.

Yard ornament thefts aren't uncommon, of course, during the summertime and don't just happen in Greenfield.

Whitefish Bay Patch reported aΒ 200-pound concrete gargoyle was stolen from a home in the 6000 block of Lake Drive the night of June 13 or the morning of June 14. Planters on the property were also damaged.
