Local Scofflaw Charged Yet Again

Joseph Erie of Greenfield, already facing charges for recent thefts and a drug overdose, is charged yet again after he allegedly broke into a Milwaukee apartment.

A 25-year-old Greenfield with a of the law is facing charges yet again after he allegedly burglarized a Milwaukee apartment.

Joseph J. Erie was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Friday with one count of burglary and one count of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 13 years in prison and $35,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On July 13, the victim came home from work to his apartment in the 4100 block of West Morgan Avenue and found someone had broken in by removing a window on a spare bedroom and stealing money out of a dresser.

However, one of the victim’s coworkers was driving by the apartment around noon and saw Erie holding a screen window and trying to place it back on the apartment. The man called another coworker who confronted Erie, who then ran away.

Investigators were able to recover Erie’s fingerprints from the scene and the victim’s coworker was able to identify him via a photo lineup.

Erie is currently being held in Milwaukee County Jail.
