On Thursday, a woman contacted the after she saw Kukowski driving erratically near West Layton Avenue and South 60th Street. The woman said his car was swerving out of its lane and hitting the curb before Kukowski finally pulled over near 60th and Morely Drive.

Officers found the car still parked on the street, with Kukowski slumped over in the driver’s seat and holding his keys. He admitted to driving to the area and told officers he earlier had two beers.

Kukowski failed field sobriety tests, which were then suspended by officers due to concerns about Kukowski’s safety because he was unable to keep his balance. Kukowski was taken in for a blood test and began to scratch his face, which officers recognized as behavior consistent with heroin usage.

Kukowksi was previously convicted of OWI in 2006 and 2009. He will make his initial appearance in court June 22.
