Man Passes Out Drunk in Greenfield Intersection, Charged With Third OWI

Suspect was spotted driving the wrong way down South 35th Street when a woman called the cops and followed him.

A 48-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges after he was spotted driving drunk the wrong way down a road and then passing out in his car in a Greenfield intersection.

Patrick McGuff was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Tuesday with one count of third offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, he could face up to one year in Milwaukee County Jail and $2,000 in fines.

A woman driving on South 35th Street near West Morgan Avenue Sunday spotted McGuff driving the wrong way down the road, so she called police and followed his car. McGuff continued driving to the intersection of South 38th Street and West Cold Spring Road, where the woman said he stopped for no reason in the middle of the road and remained there until police arrive.

The officer who approached the car found McGuff passed out. When the officer woke him up, McGuff began to mumble. When asked if he had been drinking, he said “what do you think” and then told the officer he was “(expletive) up.”

He refused to perform field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.22, nearly three times the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.

McGuff was previously convicted of drunk driving in 1992 and 1993. He’s currently being held in county jail on $500 cash bond.
