Man Steals $1,000 From Grandparents to Fuel Drug Habit

Suspect tells police he needed money for prescription pills and heroin.

A 26-year-old Greenfield man is facing charges for allegedly stealing from his grandparents in order to fuel his drug habit.

Justin T. Phillips was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Thursday with one count of theft. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Feb. 5, Phillips’ grandfather called to his residence in the 3800 block of West Edgerton Avenue after he noticed his grandson had taken $80 from the home. He told police in the past year Phillips had taken $1,000 from both him and his wife.

Phillips admitted to the crime, saying he stole the money to buy prescription pills and heroin.
