Man Steals Jewelry from Own Aunt, Police Say

A 27-year-old Milwaukee man faces burglary charges after police say he stole jewelry from his aunt.

David Bornfleth of Milwaukee was charged with felony burglary in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Aug. 9.

According to the criminal complaint, a Greenfield homeowner in the 4400 block of South 46th Street, called police Feb. 27, and told them while she was at work, someone entered her home and took jewelry. She told police she saw footprints in the snow up her driveway.

Inside, her jewelry cabinet was slightly ajar and noticed a watch, necklace and gold rings missing.

Bornfleth then gave some of the rings to a friend and told her they were from an ex-girlfriend. He asked his friend to sell them for him so that he could give her cash for driving him to his aunt’s house earlier that day.

Bornfleth later told the woman that if someone asked where she had gotten the rings that she got them from some girl off the street or he’d “go to prison for a long time.”

If convicted, Bornfleth faces a maximum of 12 ½ years of imprisonment, $25,000 in fines or both.
