Man Tries to Get Forged Prescription by Pretending to be Doctor

Greenfield pharmacist becomes suspicious after someone who called asking about the prescription's status sounded like the doctor who just called it in.

A Milwaukee man is facing charges after he allegedly pretended to be a doctor and then called in a fake prescription for Hydrocodone at a Greenfield pharmacy.

George John Lazaris, 63, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Wednesday with one count of attempting to obtain a controlled substance by misrepresentation and one count of unauthorized use of personal identification. If convicted, he faces up to nine years in prison.

On March 20, Lazaris contacted the pharmacy at via phone and pretended to be a doctor ordering a prescription for Hydrocodone for another man. He gave the doctor’s Drug Enforcement Administration number to the pharmacy during the call. The pharmacist, however, called police about a possible forgery after Lazaris called back a short time later asking if the prescription was ready; the employee noticed the voices sounded the same.

Lazaris came in and initially said he was the man who needed the Hydrocodone prescription. When a Greenfield police officer approached him, Lazaris gave his real name and said he was there to pick up some Prilosec.

Lazaris admitted to calling in the fake prescription, saying he obtained the doctor’s DEA by calling up his office and pretending to be a pharmacy technician who needed the number.

He will make his initial appearance in court Thursday.
